Guided injections ensure that the medications such as steroid or other products such as PRP are placed precisely at the source of the symptoms. Obviously, this is better than ‘blind’ injection, which is by palpating the anatomical landmarks to guide the injections. Many papers have confirmed better efficacy of guided injection than blind injections.

Prof Khan has patients referred by GPs, Orthopaedics and Rheumatology Consultants and Allied Health Professionals, for guided injections after these professionals have had a go at blind injection and in some case under guidance. Ostensibly, the patients having guided injections by Prof Khan have better outcome in pain relief and symptom alleviation.

Why Guided injections by radiologist?

·      A radiologist is a specialist trained for 5 yrs and an additional 1 or 2 yrs as Fellow, in using xray, ultrasound and CT scan, to guide injections, biopsies and other interventional procedures. This is comprehensive training as opposed to a 1 day or even 6 month course, that many other specialities may have undertaken.

·      The proficiency in the use of imaging modalities such as ultrasound, xray and CT, makes the procedure quicker, less painful and very precise. This also leads to more durable and enduring outcome. Also, significantly less complications.

·      For these, reasons, Prof Khan is referred patients for guided injections by Orthopaedics and Rheumatology Consultants, Allied Health professionals and GPs, after they have had a go with ‘blind’ and in some cases, guided injections.

Prof Khan believes in in gentle and empathetic approach, as this is as 'painless' as possible but also leads to better result. Please see the testimonials on what the patients think.
