Prof Shah H. Khan, is an internationally renowned Consultant Radiologist with NHS base at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Central Lancashire. He is also Honorary Visiting Professor at Sahara Medical College, Narowal.
He has over 15 years of experience and expertise in medicolegal work, involving personal injury and clinical negligence. He specialises in all aspects of Musculoskeletal imaging and also leads on Neuroradiology. He has expertise in xray, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans.
He is the only British radiologist awarded, the prestigious ESSR/ISS Award (European Society of Skeletal Radiology/International Skeletal Society) for Best Scientific research, Oxford, 2005.
Recently awarded prestigious Bronze award by the National Clinical Excellence Committee in 2016, in recognition of his immense contribution to excellence in radiology.
He regularly receives about 100-150 instructions from both claimants and defendants with 90% claimants and 10% defendants.
Shah Khan has completed the Expert Witness Certificate (2008), Bond Solon course in conjunction with Cardiff University, on medicolegal practice including report writing and cross-examination for court appearance.
He provides thorough and considered reports, which are clear and clarify the issues raised, providing unambiguous opinion and require minimal, if any, amendments or queries. Although he has had training in cross-examination for court appearance but has not yet had to attend court. This is a testament of the clarity and considered opinion provided, that facilitates early settlement of cases and avoiding costly court proceedings.
Professional expertise in X ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI scan in musculoskeletal radiology and Neuroradiology involving brain and spine, which are the main site of injury in personal injury cases.
He is a regular lecturer at National and International meetings and is extensively involved in teaching of junior doctors, Consultants and Allied health professionals.
He is the SSC Lead for Lancashire, covering the Lancaster and UCLAN Medical Schools (2017-).
He is part of the faculty of PG Cert for Musculoskeletal ultrasound course run by University of Cumbria (since 2007).
He was one of only 5 Radiology Performance Assessors, for GMC (2011-16).
He brings on board the considerable experience and understanding of the role of doctors, their responsibility and duty to patients.
Dr Khan was also member of the Professional Support and Standards Board, Royal College of Radiologists (2013-16). This board sets up the standards of radiological services in the four countries of the United Kingdom but followed by the radiologists across the world. Dr Khan chaired the 7 Day Acute Radiology Document, published by the Royal College of Radiologists, Dec 2016.
He has extensively published in peer review journals (over 35 articles) and written chapters in international Musculoskeletal Radiology books.

He is also the Editorial Board of prestigious and venerable journal, British Journal of Hospital Medicine and Radiological Documents, a Pan-European journal. Reviewer of Clinical Radiology, official journal of the Royal College of Radiologists.
Dr Khan has been an innovator in provision of services and setting standards of radiology practice. His audit on ‘non-documentation of X-rays reported by non-radiologists’(2011), adopted by CQC (Care Quality Commision) and set as standard for all Trusts . His guidance is sought across the country and has led to significant improvement in patient safety and preventing serious untoward incidents.
